Mr. Arsalaan Ahmed is a recognised leader in Islamic finance, FinTech, and sustainable banking with over c.20 years of experience in banking and financial services, spanning both traditional and digital models.
He has held several key roles, including two banking CEO roles in Malaysia as well as senior management roles in the GCC, where he led organisational transformation and financial performance growth. He has also made significant contributions to the global Sukuk market, including involvement in Government of Malaysia Sukuk, Republic of Indonesia Sukuk, first public Sukuk for Makkah development, the debut UK Sovereign Sukuk, and was instrumental in issuing the world’s first UN SDG Sukuk in 2018.
His expertise extends to policy development, where he has advised governments on Islamic finance regulations and supported the growth of Islamic FinTech through angel investing. He is the first foreigner to serve as Secretary and Treasurer of the Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia and chaired a Sub-Committee of the Malaysian Financial Services Joint Committee on Climate Change (JC3), an industry initiative co-chaired by Bank Negara Malaysia and Securities Commission.
He has received several industry recognitions, including Islamic Banker of the Year (2018) by The Asset AAA and FinTech Leader (2024) by the Global Islamic Finance Awards.
He holds a Corporate Director Certificate from Harvard Business School (HBS), achieved Chartered Banker certification from the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB) and Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance certification from Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIIF). Oz also earned an MBA with Distinction from London Business School Executive programme (LBS, 2016), a MSc in Economics, Finance & Management from The University of Bristol (2003), and a BSc (Hons) in Information Management from University College London (2002). Additionally, he holds sustainability certifications from both HBS and LBS.
Mr. Arsalaan Ahmed was appointed as a Non-Independent Executive Director of Berjaya Mutual Berhad on 2 December 2024 and is also the Chief Executive Officer of Berjaya Capital Berhad, the immediate holding company of Berjaya Mutual Berhad.
